                Armen  Hakobyan ist seit der Spielzeit 2024/2025 zusammen mit Marek Tůma Intendant des Aalto Ballett Essen. Seit der  Spielzeit 2018/2019 war er als Ballettmeister beim Aalto Ballett Essen tätig. Er erhielt in Jerewan den ersten Ballettunterricht und setzte seine  Ausbildung an der Bulgarischen Ballettschule in Sofia fort. Auf ein erstes  Engagement als Solist beim Ballett der Staatsoper Sofia folgte 2000 eine  Verpflichtung ans Theater Altenburg-Gera als Solist, wo er in Balletten von Uwe  Scholz, Nils Christie, Ton Wiggers und Birgit Scherzer mitwirkte. 2003 holte  ihn Youri Vámos an die Deutsche Oper am Rhein und besetzte ihn in zahlreichen  seiner Ballette als Solist. Darüber hinaus arbeitete er mit Choreografen wie  Mats Ek, John Neumeier, Hans van Manen sowie Petr Zuska und war als  Trainingsleiter in Bulgarien, Korea und Deutschland tätig. Seit 2010/2011  gehörte er als Solotänzer zum Aalto Ballett Essen. Im Jahr 2016 assistierte er  Jiří Kylián im Rahmen der Produktion „Archipel“. In der Saison 2010/2011  stellte er sich mit „Nuvole bianche“ („PTAH II“) und mit „Embodiment“ („PTAH  III“) als Choreograf vor und setzte seine Arbeit mit „Frequencies“ im Rahmen  von „Vibrations“ fort. In der Spielzeit 2017/2018 zeichnete er gemeinsam mit  Denis Untila für die Choreografie von „Moving Colours“ verantwortlich.   Seine Choreografie „Many a moon“ wurde im Rahmen von „Noverre: Junge Choreografen  2019“ mit dem Stuttgarter Ballett aufgeführt.
